Insurance
Insurance can be difficult to navigate when you are already in a vulnerable state of mind. I’ve included information about the insurance I accept, how to use flex-spending accounts, and self-pay options to make it as easy as possible.
In Network
I am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans, Blue Choice PPO, and Medicare. For all other insurance providers, I am considered to be out of network.
I am happy to help you identify your coverage and the potential out of pocket cost you will incur for sessions prior to sessions, upon request. However, I cannot guarantee this will be accurate until the claim is processed, which can take up to a month at times. I recommended contacting the number on the back of your insurance card to verify benefits.
Virtual Visits
Virtual visits are typically covered under most insurance plans. However, I recommend inquiring about virtual sessions when you contact your insurance company about your benefits.
Cancellation Fees
Please note that cancellation fees cannot be billed to your insurance company. A 24-hour notice is required for cancellation of appointments so that hour can be rescheduled. If you fail to cancel within the allotted time or miss your appointment, a charge of $100 will be made for the session.
Questions to ask your insurance company:
Is outpatient mental health therapy covered under my plan?
Is the psychologist I want to see in-network?
Do I need a referral from my primary care physician?
Do I need preauthorization before starting therapy?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions per year?
What is my deductible, and how much have I met so far this year?
What is my copay or coinsurance per therapy session?
Are telehealth therapy sessions covered at the same rate as in-person sessions?
If I see an out-of-network provider, what percentage will you reimburse?
What is the “allowed amount” for out-of-network sessions?
Can I submit superbills for reimbursement?
Out of Network
If I am an out of network provider, please inquire with your insurance company to see if you have any out of network benefits. Often there will be a separate deductible (typically higher) and the amount that is covered by insurance is less. Payment for sessions is due in full at the time of service. I do not submit out of network claims on your behalf, but will provide a “superbill” with all of the information needed for you to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Self-Pay/Flex-Spending
My initial evaluation fee is $250, individual therapy sessions are $185 for 60 minutes and $170 for 45 minutes. Payment for sessions is due in full at the time of service. I do offer a sliding scale fee for a limited number of those in need.
Flex Spending funds may also be used. I use an app called Ivy Pay for credit card payments. We will set that up at the first session. An HSA card can be added to the portal and copayments can be charged with this card after every session.
