You don't have to face your challenges alone

together we can help you live your life grounded in what truly matters to you

Doctoral-level therapy for adults in the Fox Valley area and throughout Illinois.

When You're Doing Everything You Can
Just to Get Through It

Anxious thoughts that won’t quiet down

Depression that makes ordinary days feel heavy

Behaviors you keep returning to even when you know they’re not helping

Staying busy so you don’t have to sit with the feelings that come with loss or grief

Fears that have been holding you back

Emotions are a normal part of the human experience, but they can be painful. When the strategies that once helped you survive start getting in the way of the life you want,

it’s time to do something different

I'm Dr. Katherine Schaefer Berg, a clinical psychologist with a doctorate and 20 years of experience treating adults with mental health challenges.

My practice is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention, among other evidence-based approaches.

I trained at institutions founded by the originators of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I hold a Diplomate Certification from the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, have provided clinical training at Northwestern University and Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, and currently train early-career therapists in DBT.

I believe therapy should be both compassionate and grounded in solid research. I've received training in empirically-supported therapies and continue to seek out ongoing learning so I can provide the highest quality care.

Rooted in Science. Grounded in compassion.

Individually applied.

Effective therapy is never one-size-fits-all. I use approaches with strong research behind them, customized to your specific history and goals.

That means:

  • understanding your struggles in the context of your life — not just the symptoms, but what’s influencing them

  • identifying the patterns that are keeping you stuck

  • and using proven methods to help you change them.

Therapy with me will ask something of you. The work happens in session and outside of it. But for people willing to engage with that process, the results are real.
